firefighters were killed as they responded to a blaze in upstate new york. the governor of new york state has called what happened in at the small town a senseless act of violence. it comes just 10 days after a shooting killed 26 people at a connecticut primary school. a report from washington. >> a fire in the early morning in a comfortable lakeside community. the phone call that brought forth small town firefighters to the blaze, and out of nowhere, a tragedy on christmas eve. >> all four firefighters were shot at the scene. one firefighter was able to flee the scene on his own, and the other three were p&l in the location. >> two firefighters died of their wounds at the fire, and it took an armored personnel carrier to evacuate residents. the town is distraught. >> it is a very difficult situation. >> a heightened awareness to this kind of violence in light of what happened in connecticut, and i just want everyone to remember that it is christmas eve. we have families who are in pain and crisis today. >> all week, they have been burying the dead in newtown, connecticut, and all week, the a

next. jon: a fox news alert out of upstate new york where a gunman has opened fire with four firefighters battling an intense inferno, and two of those firefighters are now dead. heather: i'm heather childers, we are in for megyn kelly. now, the firefighters shot while responding to a fire in weber the, new york. the police chief says two of them were killed at the scene. the other two are being treated at a hospital. gregg: our david lee miller is following this story live from our new york studios. >> reporter: here's the timeline of what happened this morning. it was about 5:35 when they received a call there was a house fire. firemen from the west webster fire department, four in total. the first two of those firemen were shot dead at the scene, two others were seriously hurt. later an off-duty police officer from the nearby town of greece, new york, drove by. the gunfire hit his car. he was apparently injured by the shrapnel. now, as for the shooter, authorities say that he apparently was killed by a gunshot, there was some type after a shootout. police arrived, their fi

in los angeles thanks. >>> hundreds of volunteers who you are ared to new york after superstorm sandy are settling into their home away from home. when they are not helping with recovery efforts they are recouperating on the uss wright. it is equiped with sleeping quarters and a common area. anna is live with an inside look. >> hello everybody at home. finding space for the thousands of volunteers who stepped up in the aftermath of superstorm sandy has proven to be a tall order. that's where this ship comes in, the ss wright. it is now home away from home for a couple hundred volunteers from the american red cross and fema core. they are staying together and eating together and playing games and watching sports together, yet it is in patriotic living quarters. and they are manning the 27 disaster recovery centers set up in the tri-state area. many are young and even just right out of high school. it is an interesting dynamic as many of the red cross volunteers are older. retired health care workers. it can be trying. being around storm victims and devastation at times is emotionally e

know how important that is. jon: right now, in a new york city courtroom ophadel williams, the gentleman on the screen is learning what the jury thinks about his responsibility or culpability in one of the most horrific traffic cases this city has seen in recent times. it was march 12, 2011, when the bus williams was driving tipped over an on expressway in new york state in the bronx specifically. it hit the signpost you see there, cut the top of the bus and killed 15 people. all of them were returning from a casino trip to connecticut. he says that he was cut off by a tractor-trailer rig. prosecutors charged him with being so recklessly sleep deprived that it was as if he was drunk. he faces 15 counts of manslaughter among other charges. the jury's have is being read right now but in the situation it is always confusing whether or not these are guilty or not guilty verdicts. we're going to keep an eye on it. when we find out precisely what happens we will bring you the verdicts but he faces 15 years in prison 1/4 million dollars fine if he is convicted on all 15 manslaugh

. upstate new york from this past storm, got slammed with nearly 20 inches of it. meteorologist maria molina is live in the fox extreme weather center. >> harris, good to see you. we got the brand new computer models updated and chances are increasing to see more snow from the storm. eastern porgss of massachusetts, connecticut and the state of rhode island could look at over six inches of snow with areas possibly seeing a foot of snow. so again the chance of seeing more snow from this next storm system is increasing here. it is pulling in a lot of moisture from the gulf of mexico. that is one of the reasons why we think we could see a little more than originally anticipated. right now it is producing snow across areas in chicago, northern parts of the state of indiana that into michigan. on the southern end of the storm system we have showers and thunderstorms in louisiana, mississippi and tennessee. eventually both of these areas will be coming together and moving towards the northeast. i do quickly want to point out between these areas we're actually seeing freezing rain falling early thi
